Volley

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Ok, I’m currently leveling Tyrana now with WotLK. While leveling again, I’ve realized a thing or two about Volley. Some you might consider obvious, some perhaps not.
My Steady Shot costs ~130 mana. If I get lucky with crits, I have to use 2-3 of them to get a similar level mob down. If I’m unlucky it can take up to 8, but mostly 5-6 does the trick. That’s… around 650 mana spent on one mob.
I’ve started to use Volley while grinding. One of the reasons are that it only consumes 1 ammo, but damages mobs within the radius 6 times. Another is that my steady and auto shots are at around 350-450, and my Volley hits for ~400 unresisted, and crits for ~900 unbuffed (over 1k with BW popped). Yet another reason is that you get 6 shots for 560 mana, rather than 6 shots for 780 mana. Not to menntion the scaling with mobs within the vincinity.
With Steady Shot and Arcane Shot and Multi-Shot (the two latter being slightly less mana efficient) you still have to use 5-6 new shots when the first mob is down, landing you at up to 1.5k mana lost for two mobs. While you can get lucky (with crits) and escape with only a minor mana loss, Volley is a far better option for these situations.
It might seem obvious to everyone that Volley is the more efficient for 2-mob-pulls or greater, but I’d like to argue that it’s the most efficient even on single pulls.
As I’ve said, you only spend 1 ammo, this saves a lot of money if you continiously use Volley for everything.
You can use the ammo you save to regain mana with AotV (and with a clean consience, since you would’ve used it for something much more inefficient if you weren’t using Volley) since Ammo is still cheaper than water.
Now, for the obvious part: You’re restricted to one pet. This won’t work on any other pet than Gorilla. Not even Carrion Birds if my estimates are correct. However, I was under the impression that most hunters play with Gorilla now, so I though I’d share!
Any comments or input on this? Is this a playstyle you’d use?-Talnivarr EU:
Utarius – 80 Warrior
Tyradar – 80 Hunter
Vardos – 80 Paladin
Daedros – 80 Deathknight
Gardon – 80 Druid
Gorgathar – 78 Shaman
Drana – 74 Priest
Xyrana – 73 Warlock
Urthak – 70 Rogue
Tyrana – 71 Mage

WoW: Updated Druid Forms On The Way

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Blizzard has announced that the Druid will be getting some much needed love in the next major World of Warcraft patch. Druids will, among other things, have several new forms.
n our next major content patch, druids will find a host of new textures for two major forms, cat and bear. There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance. Night elves can choose to change their cat and bear look at any time by visiting the barber shop and changing their character’s hair color, while tauren will be able to change which look they use by switching skin tones in the barber shop — a new feature for tauren in the next major content patch. Given that there are more hair colors and skin tones than unique form looks, some colors and tones will overlap with these new textures. The hair and skin colors chosen will, in most cases, correspond with the color seen in the look of each form. Some similar colors that may share a particular cat texture will not necessarily share the same bear texture.

and for PvP However, I need to learn to

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

So I’m Mutilate sp. I enjoy it for farming and for PvP. However, I need to learn to PvE better! I was in a hero yesterday (Halls of Lightning) and Iouldn’t even maintain 1000 DPS, whereas others in my group were approhing 2000. My gear is not very good, but it’s not terrible either. It’s mostly S4 gear with a single L80 ep and a few L80 blues mixed in. I have about 220 hit rating. So my question – What is the best move rotation to maximize DPS as mutilate? I know it’s not the ideal sp, but there is plenty of damage potential in my build. Feel free tohk my armory for details, but I’m 42524 mutprep right now w offhand sp.
Let me prefe this by saying what’s already known…I don’t know mh. I do know that you should be running a lot higher dps. I’m 76 and sustain 1200,lose to 2k on boss fights in instaes. My rotation: garrote, SnD, mut mut envn, mut mut rupture, mut mut envn, repeat. The armory is down right now, but at 42 you probably don’t haveut to thehase, whh replenishes your SnD timer upon evis or envenom to full duration, whh is awesome, imo. My hit is at 297, 317 with hit food if needed (normally use mega mammoth for 80 AP). Buffed AP with 550 might islosing in on 3000…base is 2.2k, so there’s a big differee in stats there. Hopefully someone more enlightened will help you out. Edit: Forgot about Hunger for Blood. Extra 9% dmg helps.
PvE mute sp is 51137. If you aren’t that, you shouldn’t be expting serious dps potential. Here’s what you’re skping out: 3%rit 5% hit 9% Damage Free SnD Espially for shorter fights, letting loose with an envenom instead of refreshing SnD is another 2k-4k damage every SnD refresh, or sooner depending on yourP generation. That’s easily another 140 dps. Add in the gain in stats, and you’re rping sh*t up.

and there I found this one lk, Omarr

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I browsed the Armory a little, and there I found this one lk, Omarr. With a 2600 rating I think he knows what he’s doing, but I don’t understand why he’s doing it. First thing is: 3 points in Suppression and 54 hit rating. That should give him about plus 11% of “spell to land on a target” stat. But I read somewhere that default value is 96% and max 99%. So he would be way over the limit. I don’t think he has skilled that way for PvE bause there is nohallangeoming from the other arena players, still it’s possible :) Sond: Why the point in the imp? Thanks for your help. Perhaps I should add a link :) Omarr
remember this, someone’s armoury link isn’t representative of how they play in all situations. hk if youhk out my armoury you’ll see i’m a 02140 build with loads ofrit and damage, but only 103 hit. now anyone who knows about dest builds will, and has, said “your hit is far to low for that sp”. but my reply is always “i have other gear i swih to for bosses that brings me up to extly 202 hit”. hk i also don’t pvp in this sp, i resp everytime i do arena or BGs and I bet that Omarr does too. hking out omarr’s armoury well… yeah normal pvp sp so it’s not that he’s got different sps. ummm.. the only other reasons Ian think of is that they’re ‘filler’ talents but tbh, there’s plenty of stuff heould ofhosen so the only other reason Ian think of is that the ireased hit will drease thehae that fear will be resisted by fear resisting talents.

Investing a lot of time in something is worth more than actual skill

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

If you invest more time than someone else, you “deserve ” rewards. People who invest less time “do not deserve ” rewards. This is an absurd lesson that has no connection to anything I do in the real world. The user interface artist we have at work can create 10 times more value than an artist of average skill, even if the lesser artist works way, way more hours. The same is true of our star programmer. The very idea that time > skill is alien.

Jeff Kaplan leaving World of Warcraft
In a surprise announcement this afternoon, World of Warcraft’s Game Director Jeff Kaplan (whom you may know from the forums as “Tigole, ” and whom those of you with a longer memory may remember as the guild leader of Legacy of Steel back in the EverQuest days) is leaving the WoW team to work on a their unannounced MMO. (What this means for how far along that project is it’s hard to say — are they perhaps bringing in a solid game designer because they’re just now getting things started? Or to polish off the finishing touches?) Says Kaplan of his time with the World of Warcraft team:
I wanted to take a moment to let the community know that I’ve switched roles here at Blizzard to work on our upcoming, unannounced MMO. World of Warcraft has been such a central part of my life these past six and a half years, and it’s success would not have been possible without the tremendous community around it, so I wanted to say thank you to all our players who’ve shared this amazing experience with us so far.
World of Warcraft isn’t going anywhere, however, as the rest of the team is remaining in place, including Kaplan’s “partners in crime ” Tom Chilton and J. Allen Brack.
Mr. Kaplan, while we haven’t always agreed with you, we’ll certainly miss having you around. And, since you’re going, we have to ask… can we have your stuff

build for pure PvP You go up in the Demonology

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A SLSL build is by a fair margin the best build for pure PvP. You go up in the Demonology Tree until you get Soul Link and up in the Affltion Tree until you get Shon Life (preferably gettingurse of Exhaustion along the way). DMRuin I have no idea about. SMRuin is going up in the Affltion tree to Shadow Mastery and up into Destrtion to Ruin. Doesn’t work too well, sie it’s relatively squishy, but youan get iHoT. Destrtion is pretty mh going into the Destrtion tree to Shadowfury. Itan put out pretty ne damage but has literally no survivability talents eept Shadowfury.
I dont have a warlk but i know SLSLompletely owns for pvp. wowarmoryomcharter-…p;n=Xenexia – My armory I looked at repling all myurrent gems with the +8 hit; plus all my hit on the gear and I still fall over 100 short of the 202 hitap level. I am 4 shadoloth away from my frozen Shadoweavehest pie. How do I get to 202 without being able to raid anything higher than Kara? My + plus damages is low too, and by regemming it will go down. Does that matter? Right now my maxrit on Sbolt is 1500- 2300. This is driving me freakingrazy to the point where I don’t want to play my lk anymore. I’m demon sp’d and that fits my playstyle best. Ian’t solo worthrap as a destro or affltion, i always end up spending most of the timeorpse running or eatingdrinking. Thanks in advae for help.

goal here? Hmmm, resp and enrage it is

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Hmm, so flurry will be my main goal here? Hmmm, resp and enrage it is then. Should I just progress down the tree after that? And when should I go bk for DW spialization? I sound like a n00b, but I have zero xp with DW fury warriors. Always been all out arms, prot or a 2h hybrid like now. But now I regret that I never played fury before. I fell in love. I have a newfound joy in warrior!
I did it the following order: 55 Enrage 45 Imp DW 11 Sweeping Strikes 55 Flurry 11 Bloodthirst 33 Prision 55 Imp DW (that last point) then fill out the rest It’s really up to you though. Nothing is make or break while leveling.
Opinions may vary but this is basally the route I took and think works the best. In the 40-49 brket, youan pk andhoose whh talents to get first. Basally whenever you get enough to pk up Imp Berserker Stae and Rampage, do those. Fill in others until you have 44 talents in Fury. Good lk leveling bud! From 10-19 (Using 1 hander): 55ruelty >> 55 Unbridled Wrath. From 20-29 (Dual-Wield from now on): 11 Pieing Howl >> 55ommanding Presee >> 45 Enrage. From 30-39: 55 Enrage >> 11 Sweeping Strikes >> 35 DW Sp >> 55 Flurry From 40-49: 11 Bloodthirst >> 55 DW Sp >> 22 Imp Berserker Rage >> 55 Imp Berserker Stae >> From 50-59: 11 Rampage >> 33 Prision >> ~ARMS TREE~ 55 Defltion >> 15 Iron Will From 60-70: 55 Iron Will >> 33 Deep Wounds >> 11 Anger Management >> 15 Imp Hero Strike >> 22 Impale ::EDIT:: Forgot to add that oe you hit 70 and if you plan on staying Fury, you’ll want to resp to this. It basally throws Pieing Howl and Improved Berserker Rage out the window bause you really don’t need them anymore. Instead, you’re pking up Improved Exute and a 12 Improved Whirlwind. I forgot extly what the 12 Imp Whirlwind does though, its something having to do with your globalooldowns. Ian’t remember. Inspt any 70 fury warrior and they’ll all have just the 12.

of a few sonds after the fight starts for you

Friday, February 5th, 2010

If I’m not wrong, there is a small window of a few sonds after the fight starts for you to go intoombat. That means youan’tharge. I think that’s what the warrior was thinking. She would take the opportunity to get that extra rage before shean’t. I usually wait till at least a Tlap or Sunder before Iharge (more sunders if it’s a boss). If I go intoombat, I’ll just swih to Beserker Stae, Bloodrage and Inteept. Most of my time is spent in beserker stae when I dps anyways. I would onlyharge ahead of the tank if I’m over equped or over leveled for that instae (eg: Ramps, BF, Old world instaes, e). Anyways, a warrior whoharges before the tank gets hate is either overonfident or a player who does not understand the importae of the tank getting hit. Gonnahange to prot sp after 51, maybe after the 2.3 pahomes out. For anyone who’s been goofing around on the test realm, has ithanged the viability of leveling as a prot warrior, what with thehanges to devestate? Also, does a shield spike add dps when shield slam? Not that I reallyare about major dps but I just wanna know if it’ll be a bit quker to level.

Crash Twinsanity

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Crash Bandicoot, that rabid rapscallion of a PlayStation mascot, has fallen on hard times. His last major platformer, The Wrath of Cortex, met with a tepid critical reception, and the less said about Crash Nitro Kart, the better. A lesser mascot might have been carted off to Glover-land, but Vivendi is giving this bandicoot one more shot at the platformer bigtime. And to shake things up a bit, it’s teaming Crash with Dr. Cortex, his arch-nemesis of, wow, eight years now. Is this the start of a glorious new lineage of Bandicoot-starring platformers? It’s not the time to say, but this peculiar pairing certainly opens up some interesting new gameplay avenues. As you’d imagine, the circumstances must be pretty dire for Crash and Cortex to team up so readily, and indeed they are. A pair of loathesome extra-dimenisonal invaders have landed on Crash’s island paradise, and neither Crash nor Cortex seem to stand a chance against them. At least, that is, not alone. While fleeing, an unfortunate circumstance sends them both flying into a subterranean cavern, and only then does it dawn on them that a little teamwork might be in order.Buddy SystemWell, teamwork’s a strong word, because in actuality Crash and Cortex start out by going for each others’ throats in a cartoon scuffle that’s straight out of Looney Tunes. The resultant ball of fighting, a rollerbrawl if you would, proves to be the perfect form with which to roll through the cavern’s oddly complex system of rollercoaster-like hills and rotating waterwheels. In effect, the classic Crash platforming is thus transformed into a pretty decent take on Super Monkey Ball. No kidding!Once past the initial rollcapades, the unlikely duo cease their incessant scuffling just long enough for you, as Crash, to fight a squad of robotic ants that emerges from the ground in a huge drilling machine. Once accomplished, running up to Dr. Cortex and performing a spinning attack will initiate the next major gameplay mode, which we’ll go ahead and call ICOstyle. (Sorry, we thought of it first.)No comment.True to its name, ICOstyle sees Crash dragging Cortex along to wherever he needs him. The ball-and-chain that is Cortex puts a damper on Crash’s jumping ability, but Crash can toss him away at any time to return to his normal moveset. In fact, tossing Cortex is just one of several ways in which he can actually help you. For example, at one point there’s a long pit, with a switch on the other side. And … well, I’m sure you solved that one before you even finished the last sentence. Crash can also use Cortex’s massive cranium as a hammer, turn him into a makeshift snowboard, and several other “wacky” variations. Bandicoots are funny!Later in the game you’ll get the opportunity to play as both Cortex, alone, and his neice, one Nina Cortex. Despite all this newfangled tomfoolery, Crash fans (there are some Crash fans left, right?) shouldn’t fear, as there’s still plenty of the Crash-only platforming that presumably made the series popular in the first place. It’s just interspersed with creativity, now. Not a bad idea!Rock the Crashbah? The Crash series is in sore need of some TLC, and the creative and varied play mechanics of Crash: Twinsanity look like a step in the right direction. The game is due out in a little over a month, so soon we’ll be able to judge the final version and see if the Crash fad has any chance of revival. Best of luck to Vivendi in this tricky endeavor.
